Lottery boost for our aviation history
AT long last aviation heritage sites and museums in Lincolnshire are to get some much needed cash from the public purse... in the shape of the National Lottery.
The Lincolnshire Integrated Aviation Heritage Partnership - which aims to pull in more visitors to the county's museums and heritage sites - has been awarded £436,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Money will go to sites such as The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitors Centre at RAF Coningsby, the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby, the Metheringham Airfield Visitors Centre and the RAF Wickenby Memorial Museum. Some of the cash will be spent on giving people a 'hands on' experience of the county's aviation attractions as well as promoting aviation heritage trails.
Local schools will also be given the chance to be more involved in the county's wartime history to keep it alive for future generations.
