WELCOME to Runways to War. This is your chance to take a unique journey into Britain's wartime history on a tour of five of Lincolnshire's famous airfields - and get to board one of only three working Lancasters in the world and experience all of the crew positions.

This is a tour that will take you back in time - that will make you think of those young men and women and what they did for us

On our unique two-day tour you will learn just why Lincolnshire earned its nickname of Bomber County as you are swept back to the days when this quiet part of the world was abuzz with more than 180,000 men and women of the RAF serving at 46 airfields and stations that sprang up across across the sleepy farmlands of the breadbasket of England.

You will relive their triumphs and tragedies, their tears and their laughter as night after night aircraft from rickety Hampdens to the mighty Lancasters lifted off into the night skies to take the fight to Germany in the darkest days of the Second World War.

You will learn the truth about the legendary Dambusters raid;  how it was planned and put into action from RAF Scampton. You will follow famous Guy Gibson's career from astonishing beginning to tragic end.

And you will spend two nostalgic nights in one of the most atmospheric wartime hotels in England - The Petwood at Woodhall Spa, once officers mess to 617 Squadron itself.

This wonderful  place is steeped in history - and it has changed little since the days when brave young airmen, some of whom won VCs, strolled its beautiful grounds. Close your eyes and you will be able to feel their presence.

This is a tour that will take you back in time. That will make you think of those young men and women long since gone from the deserted, broken runways of this rural corner of England, and what they did for us. So join our crew on a mission into history.

The tour costs from £385 per person. To find out more, browse the rest of the site and then ring us on 01522 851388 for details of how to book and the dates available. Or email us on info@lindumheritage.co.uk and we'll send you a booking form plus terms and conditions.
